Corsets are the staple of any goth style, they are loved by victorian goths and cybergoths alike.
Tough modern, mass produced corset tops are easy to wear they are made with plastic boning and lose their shape rather quickly, also they don't do much for wearer’s waist size or make the hourglass figure which is a point of having a corset in a first place.
There are four basic types of corsets:
Overbust: Covers the breasts and ends at the hips
Underbust: Starts under the breasts and ends at the hips
Waspie: Covers just the waist area
Corset dress: It can be overbust or underbust and it usually ends at the mid thigh section
When buying corset, paying attention to measurements is the key, average person (guys wear corsets too) will reduce their waist size for about 4 to 6 centimeters but some will reduce their waist for up to 15 centimeters. That is called tightlaceing and it is considered a body modification and fetishism.

The best tips for wearing a corset I have ever heard are:
Don’t lace it too tightly in the beginning, it takes months to wear corset like a pro.
Don’t drink fizzy drinks while wearing a corset, loud bodily functions alert
Put your shoes on first, corset second.
If corset didn’t come with modesty panel at the back (to cover up the jumbled up skin from lacing) have someone to part it and smooth it out or it will look horrible.
Don’t wear corset on bare skin, it is itchy, buy a corset liner or wear it over the dress or a top.

Most important thing about corsets: That pretty, lacey, velvety thing is actually a steel cage and movements will be restricted but it looks so beautiful and it is worth it.
